WAGONER COUNTY, Okla. — A Muskogee man was struck and killed by a car while he was loading another car onto a wrecker in Wagoner County Saturday night, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported.
Robert Marshall, 76, of Redbird, Okla. was traveling southbound on US-69, a mile south of County Road 750 when he struck John Mills, 31, of Muskogee while he was loading a vehicle onto a wrecker, troopers reported.
Troopers said Marshall then rolled his vehicle and then the vehicle came to a rest on its top. Marshall was taken to the hospital for a head injury and released, troopers said.
Mills was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Troopers said it was raining and the roads were wet at the time of the accident.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Red Beard’s Towing, where Mills was a tow operator, commented about the incident on social media.
They said Mills was “an integral part” of their team, treated their customers with respect, was willing to help anyone needed it and “always operated safely.” They also said Mills will always be part of their family and that the “tow community has lost another great one.”
They asked for people to keep Mills’ loved ones in their prayers and to respect their privacy during this time.
Red Beard’s Towing also asked for the community to remember to move over for emergency vehicles as it can “prevent another loss as heartbreaking as this.”
A GoFundMe is set up to help John’s family.
