More than 50 small businesses gathered in downtown Redding to participate in what's known as Small Business Saturday and provided shoppers with a "passport" guide through all the businesses in attendance.
"We are on Market Street it is closed for vendors. There are 50+ vendors here, and we are all small businesses selling all kinds of stuff from home décor to jewelry to clothes, you name it," Owner of small business 'Good Day Charlie', Brittany Bickley, told KRCR on Saturday's small business event.
Bickley added, "Small businesses are really the glue that holds the glue that holds the community together, and when you support a small business, you are supporting a human. you aren't supporting some big box store, and you have no idea how good it makes up small when you support a small business and makes us feel when you support a small business and shop small."
Another local small business owner, 'Knots Merry Yarn,' is run by a Redding teacher, Emily Lopez. Who even had her students come to visit the pop-up in downtown Redding. Lopez mentions how her side hustle was a fun hobby and is now something she can share with others.
I'm a 4th grade teacher and um just for fun and like self care they talk about self care a lot so i just took up creating with yarn” Lopez added. “ it just heartwarming to see someone see something I created and be able to take it home and love on it and they'll send me pictures of it so it's really fun.
Lopez knits anything from cute stuffed animals to knitted home décor and typically attends small business pop-ups like the one held in Redding Saturday the 26th.
"Supporting our local business is pretty much everything. because this is how our community thrives." Lopez added that helping each other is so important right now. "You know, I have a lot of friends that are in this community of pop-up fairs markets, and we just really work hard to support each other, and that's what it's all about."
This event lasted from 10 AM until 5 PM, making downtown Redding the perfect spot for locals to come and get in some holiday shopping while supporting local small businesses at the same time.
