On Tuesday, November 29th, the Statesboro Family YMCA will host its annual Day of Giving fundraiser. The fundraiser will go on from 8am to 6pm. Guests will be given food, kids will be given s'mores, and there will be plenty of fun things to do.

The money raised during this fundraiser goes towards sponsoring kids who can't afford summer camp.

"I know last year, we raised enough money to sponsor over 20 kids that couldn't afford summer camp during the summer," YMCA Director Hannah Beggs said. "They still get to go on field trips, they do everything all the other kids do, but we pay for them through sponsorships like the Annual Day of Giving."

The event will be summer camp-themed. Equipped with an outdoor camp set-up with tents, kids can make s'mores. For those who get there early enough, breakfast will be served with donuts and pastries, and lunch will also be provided during the Lunch and Learn session. The session will discuss what the YMCA offers the community and where all the donated money goes, like the summer camp sponsorships.

"But we do more than that," Beggs said. "For instance, on December 3rd, we're delivering 10 beds to kids in the community that don't have beds to sleep on. We raise money for instances like that."

For the YMCA, this fundraiser is a great way to give back to families within the community.

"Participating in this event and helping out raising money, you're able to give kids a chance to not just be sitting at home all day doing nothing," Beggs said. "You're able to give them a chance to get out and learn new things to have fun and just be themselves in a safe, family-friendly environment."

The Day of Giving will be hosted at the YMCA on Tuesday, November the 29th. For more information, please visit the YMCA website.
