An update on the Caldor Fire
Now, an update on a story from October. "What Happened at Grizzly Flats" investigated why a wildfire wiped out a California hamlet. We found evidence of mismanagement by the U-S Forest Service, which had done little to mitigate the fire risk. It compounded the problem with its decisions once the fire approached. Candace Tyler lost her family ranch."The Forest Service has said they did all they could," correspondent Bill Whitaker said to Tyler in the report."Your maps say, we're going to burn. Your models show, we're going to burn," Tyler said. "But you're not worried about it? Oh, you don't have the resources? That's a joke."This month, members of California's Congressional delegation will meet with the Forest Service to hear an explanation.
Here are the states Americans are moving to — and why
The pandemic sparked a restlessness in American life, with many families opting to move in search of more space or a lower cost of living. That trend continued in 2022, with hundreds of thousands of people uprooting their lives and moving to new states. About 25 U.S. states saw more people move within their boundaries last year, while about 25 states lost residents or...
Cruz: Biden "telegraphed weakness" with response to Chinese spy balloon
Republican Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas commended President Biden on Sunday for ordering the destruction of a suspected Chinese spy balloon over the Atlantic Ocean but faulted him for waiting several days to take action, saying the president's handling of the incident "projected weakness" to Beijing.Fighter jets shot the balloon out of the sky off the coast of South Carolina on Saturday on the president's orders, one week after it was first detected over Alaska, U.S. officials said. Dad was distracted. His 6-year-old son ordered $1,000 from Grubhub.
A Michigan man says he was left with a $1,000 bill after his 6-year-old son ordered a virtual smorgasbord of food from several restaurants last weekend, leading to a string of unexpected deliveries — and maybe a starring role in an ad campaign.Keith Stonehouse said the food piled up quickly at his Detroit-area home Saturday night after he let his son, Mason, use his cellphone to play a game before bed. He said the youngster instead used his father's Grubhub account to order food from one restaurant after another. The boy's mother, Kristin Stonehouse, told The Associated Press on Thursday that...
