Friends In Deed Hosts ‘Sunday Funday’

First published in the Nov. 17 print issue of the Pasadena Outlook.

Friends In Deed recently hosted its first “Sunday Funday” event at Farnsworth Park in Altadena.
The event brought together more than 70 community members, volunteers, board members and staff for an afternoon of BBQ fare, music, meaningful activities and community.
Attendees engaged in conversation with old and new friends, wrote notes of encouragement for the Women’s Room guests of Friends In Deed, reflected on what they’re grateful for, and even played some friendly rounds of cornhole.
“It was a beautiful day in Altadena to bring the community and supporters of FID together,” said Executive Director Rabbi Joshua Levine Grater. “This event was a small way to show our appreciation for everyone in our community that gives to Friends In Deed in many ways.
“A huge thanks to board member Ed Vidimos for connecting us with the Knights of Columbus from the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church who prepared and grilled the delicious food spread,” he added.
Friends In Deed, a social services agency founded in Pasadena in 1894, focuses on alleviating the effects of poverty for the community’s most vulnerable citizens. The organization’s programs include the Women’s Room (a day shelter for homeless and at-risk women), food pantry, eviction prevention and rental assistance, street outreach and housing, and bad weather supplies distribution. Friends In Deed is committed to providing compassion, connection and dignity for all clients experiencing times in their lives when they need assistance most.
