(WACH) - The Clemson football team felt heartbreak at Death Valley for the first time since 2016.
The Gamecocks snapped the Tigers' 40 home game win streak with a 31-30 upset on Saturday.
"That's the second time since 2013 Florida State game that I walked off that field with a loss," said Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney. "It's been a long time."
Will Shipley ended the day with one touchdown and rushed for 132 yards.
"I apologize to all the fans, all the guys who came before us that allowed us to carry on that streak for a little while," said sophomore running back Will Shipley. "I just apologize to them, that's how I feel."
Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei completed just 8-of-29 passes, throwing for 99 yards total.
The Tigers haven't lost to South Carolina in seven years.
"I'm pissed," said Uiagalelei. "I hate losing, definitely sucks losing especially to South Carolina, I know how much it means to a lot of guys on the team, coaches, a lot of people here, Clemson fans. It definitely sucks."
The Tigers will play UNC at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte on Saturday, December 3 at 8:00 p.m.
