Christ has this soap ever been so woke?. An episode the other day involved a gang of far right, racist thugs hurling abuse and beating the shit out of a migrant worker, making monkey noises as the episode drew to a close. I guess it's at least highlighting these issues in society which is the whole point but the broader point being, it's long felt like the Corrie we grew up with.
Gone are the days of Jack & Vera and the soaps unrivalled sense of humour to everyday british life on the Salford suburbs. I don't subscribe to PC propaganda so at least it's pushing boundaries to invoke discussion around these issues but it's become more woke than EE. I've had training in awareness of radicalisation and it's pretty shocking how these groups will manipulate those vulnerable by appearing 'normal' to hide their malicious intent.

Maybe it's to engage those who haven't been trained on radicalisation awareness?
Ruining our long running soap.
Far too much of this sort of thing is being added to our soap’s content.
Come on, Producers, Scriptwriters and everyone who makes these decisions….. let’s get back to the Corrie we know. Carry on much longer and even more viewers will leave.
What is getting too much? You don't actually say what is getting to you...
What do you mean by Woke?
It's essentially a culmination of the past fews of Corrie. Everything has been building up to this because it's been 1 woke storyline after another. I thought EE was bad enough but this is taking the piss. Still at least it's still more watchable than Emmerdale farm.
They read the Daily Mail, safe in the knowledge that anyone complaining about it is just "woke" and can be ignored.
A almost perfect example of why such a storyline is needed.
Actually I've faced racism myself as I'm half pakistani. I was greeted in a pub once by someone asking if I sell bombs upon giving my name. I'm not even a religious person but I have an arabic name and features due to my bloodline.
Nobody is doubting your personal experiences. If anything, it just makes your first post confusing. If a woke person had greeted you at that pub, they would have treated as a fellow human being. But you seem to see that as a bad thing.
Too much serious stuff….. hardly ever any comedy in it now.
I prefer the serious stuff as the comedy is no longer funny.
There were complaints about too much serious stuff a few years back and they started putting in lots of comedy to 'balance' it. Problem was it was not classic light hearted and subtle Corrie comedy it was Kirk or another of the hilarious xomedy characters saying stupid things.
Some people dont even seem to know what the word actually means.
so what you got against your real world experience being represented on TV?
But it has always had serious stuff. From the word go Corrie has been a drama, not a comedy.
But I can see the point some of the posters above are making: When I see an article with a soap actor and it mentions a new upcoming plot, the phrase "Issue based storyline" makes my heart sink. Because the "issues" raised are going to be done and dusted in few months and never mentioned again. When in reality it would take a lot longer, maybe even years (loved ones dying, serious medical incidents, buildings exploding etc). I could go about having too many loosely defined regular cast members, who don't have the viewers' investment, but what would be the point?
So true, Vince. I like a bit of lightheartedness but not the so called comedy like they use for Kirk, Mary and Gail/Eileen. Eileen getting a knock on the head and changing into a saint was pathetic.
I don't understand why you would object to this awful kind of thing being reflected as an issue in the programme. And what do you mean by woke? Do you really want to criticise the programme for calling out this sort of behaviour as unacceptable?
