DETROIT (WWJ) – Suspects are in custody after leading Michigan State Police on a chase in a stolen car late Saturday night on Detroit’s west side.

MSP troopers were on patrol along the Southfield Freeway shortly before 10:30 p.m. Saturday when they spotted a red Dodge Charger that had been reported stolen, heading north near Grand River Avenue.

When a patrol car pulled behind the car, the suspect accelerated quickly and a pursuit ensued, MSP officials said.

As troopers were giving chase, officials say the suspect vehicle blew a tire and exited the freeway at 7 Mile Road.

Troopers tried to perform a PIT maneuver on the Charger on 7 Mile near Lindsay Street, but it was unsuccessful. Officials say the suspects eventually stopped, got out of the car and ran through an alley, before being arrested.

Authorities didn’t specify how many suspects were arrested. No names or ages of the suspects were disclosed.

Police recovered three pistols from the Charger.

The patrol car sustained minor damage to the front driver’s side and rear passenger door.

No injuries were reported.

The case is pending prosecutor review.
