Southeastern South Dakota could see its first real accumulation of snow for the season early this week, according to the National Weather Service of Sioux Falls.

As of Sunday morning, areas across Siouxland are expected to see anywhere from 2 to 4 inches or more come Tuesday, the weather service predicts.

"While uncertainty still remains on the systems track and progression, the potential for light snow continues to increase for most areas," the weather service stated on its website. "Continue the monitor the forecast for more details."

What can Sioux Falls expect?

Sioux Falls has a 60-70% chance of seeing more than 2 inches of snow, according to the weather service. But there's a 30-40% of the area seeing 4 inches of snow or more.

Higher snowfall amounts are currently predicted for areas in the far southeast portion of the state, and southwest Minnesota as the snow moves in from the west to the east.

Temperatures will then plummet to single-digits Tuesday night, and remain low through the end of the week.

After a few more days of mild conditions, a cold front will push through the region Tuesday bringing the next chances for snow along with cooler temperatures, the NWS states.

What's the impact?

Gusty winds will bring brief reduction in visibility, and slippery road conditions are expected, the service states.

No watches, warnings or advisories have been issued at this time.
