Family of 19-year-old killed in Parkland gathers to remember her
Loved ones gathered in the Parkland neighborhood to remember Andrea Perks.
"We just need answers. Just need answers. We need to know who did it and why," said Antonio Perks Sr., father of Andrea Perks.
Andrea Perks was shot late Wednesday morning, according to Louisville Metro Police.
Around 11:30 a.m., LMPD First Division officers responded to the call of a shooting. The Jefferson County Coroner says it happened in the rear alley of 700 block of Hazel Street. That is off Broadway just east of the Shawnee Expressway overpass.
When they got there, they found a woman who had been shot.
"This is senseless. Any types of these crimes are senseless. There are way too many mothers burying their kids. There are way too many children that are left without mothers, without fathers," said Lena Neely, grandmother.
Police said Perks was taken to UofL Hospital in critical condition. She later died.
Family met Saturday in the area where she was shot to release balloons, draw attention to the case, and remember Perks as a loving sister and mother of a 2-year-old.
"She's gone and her child's right here. She's got to grow without her momma. Somebody's got to explain that to her. That ain't easy," said Antonio Perks Sr. "If anybody knows any information, please, please, please tell somebody."
There are currently no suspects.
