CINCINNATI (WKRC) - Memorial services have been planned for former Hamilton County coroner, Cincinnati State president, and fertility expert Dr. O'dell Owens.
There will be a visitation at the Corinthian Baptist Church on Tennessee Ave at 10 a.m. on December 2
It will be followed by a private family service at noon. A public celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Current coroner Dr. Lakshmi Sammarco said Dr. Owens died on the way to the hospital after suffering a heart attack Wednesday. He was 74.
In 1982, he established an in vitro fertilization program at UC Medical Center and achieved the city's first successful in vitro fertilization.
He was also behind the first successful conception and delivery from a frozen embryo the year after.
Dr. Owens served as Hamilton County coroner from 2004-2010, before being named president of Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.
He most recently served as the president of Interact for Health before retiring in 2021.
