The Grand Rapids Griffins, American Hockey League affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, announced on Saturday that they've signed free agent forward Alex Chiasson to a professional tryout contract (PTO).

Chiasson, 32, became a free agent in the summer after spending the 2021-22 season with the Vancouver Canucks. In 67 games with the Canucks, he had 22 points (13 goals, nine assists), 24 penalty minutes and was a plus-five.

With not many offers coming in, the Montreal native opted to sign a PTO with the Arizona Coyotes, joining them for training camp and pre-season games. Just before the start of the 2022-23 season, the Coyotes released Chiasson, making him a free agent once again.

In parts of 10 seasons in the NHL with Dallas, Ottawa, Calgary, Washington, Edmonton and Vancouver, Chiasson has 224 points (110 goals, 114 assists), 353 penalty minutes and is a minus-36.
