After shopping at big box stores for Black Friday, the trend continues for Small Business Saturday.
It's a special time of celebrations that drew in people from across town to Winterset.
"We like Winterset's cozy little square, just how tight, historic and classic it is. So kind of meet in the middle," said Randi Johnson of Osceola.
Each store is filled with special products that's hard to find elsewhere.
"It's not the same thing as being able to go in and see things and pick it up and you're not going to find the little things you didn't know you're looking for if you're just shopping online," Johnson said.
For Ben Franklin owners Dave and Judy Trask, this small business Saturday is their last. They're getting ready to close up shop next month after 44 years in business.
"It's very humbling. And we've had a tremendous rush of business the entire last month since we started our going out of business sale," Trask said.
The couple is looking forward to spending more time with their grandkids but will miss their customers who became friends.
"Well we're going to miss it. Hate to do it. But there comes a time where you have to move on I guess," Trask said.
The store maybe closing for good but they're not going far because Winterset is home. It's also why this holiday season is extra special after the deadly March 5 tornado struck town.
"It showed how a small town can come together and overcome just about anything. And we're very proud of the community and all the work that it did," Trask said.
While this holiday weekend is a chance to score some deals, it's also a way for the community to celebrate one another.
