Dirty Dancing icon Jennifer Grey has revealed 2024's sequel will reunite her character with some familiar faces.

Back as Frances 'Baby' Houseman for the first time since the late '80s, this movie will find her at the upscale resort of Kellerman's once again – the location of the original.

Discussing the "tricky" yet "exciting" prospect of a third Dirty Dancing (a prequel subtitled Havana Nights arrived in 2004), Grey recently told Extra TV: "You will see other characters that are from the original".

Previously, while speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the actress explained why the sequel won't attempt to replace the late Patrick Swayze, who so memorably played Johnny Castle.

"What happened happened, and that will never happen again. There will never be another Johnny," said Grey. "There will never be another Patrick. This sequel has got to be its own standalone piece."

Keeping tight-lipped about storyline specifics, she added: "I can't tell you much, sadly, but I will tell you that it will involve Baby. It will involve Kellerman's. There will be music.

"Unless there's a lot of CGI, Baby's going to be a little older. It's going to be Kellerman's, music, dancing, love story, romance. I'm just so super-committed and invested in making it a fresh [take]."

Since then, though, we've learned that the action takes place in the '90s and follows Baby's own story as it interweaves with another young woman's coming-of-age stint at Kellerman's.

Co-writer and director Jonathan Levine shared back in May: "Johnny is a part of Baby's journey in the story. This film exists in a dialogue with the original. We want to introduce this story to a whole new generation.

"That said, Johnny's absence looms large over the story, so it's a coming-of-age story but also a coming-of-age for Baby's character in a way."

The Dirty Dancing sequel is scheduled for cinemas on February 9, 2024.
