SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – As families and friends wrap up their Thanksgiving celebrations this weekend, the National Weather service alerted travelers across the country about weather systems that may interrupt their travel plans.

One of these systems is expected to bring mountain snow to the Cascade Mountain Range in the Pacific Northwest Saturday night.

“For those of you still traveling for the holidays, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Cascades,” said the weather service. “A watch remains in effect for the eastern mountains. Most of the snow is expected to fall Sunday.”

Earlier this week, the National Weather Service said that the Thanksgiving holiday would bring more rain than usual to parts of the country.

As of Saturday, the service said “severe thunderstorms capable of all hazards,” are expected to increase Tuesday in the southwest region, from eastern TX into Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.

“Widespread showers and thunderstorms will spread from the Southern Plains today into the East on Sunday,” said a forecast issued Saturday afternoon. Difficult travel conditions were predicted in the south into next week.

Anyone traveling by air or on the ground, especially in the effected regions should plan ahead for possible travel delays.
