UPDATE 11/27 10:39 a.m.: The Virginia Department of Forestry has taken over fighting the forest fire on Tobacco row Mountain in Amherst County.

Forestry officials say the rain is helping but crews are still out putting in fire lines. They say at the fire’s biggest it was expected to be 100 acres.

Forestry Crews will continue to monitor the fire on Sunday.

There is no word on how much of the fire is contained and officials are warning the public to stay away from the area.



UPDATE 11/26 4:29 p.m.: According to Monelision Fire Department no injuries have been reported due to the brush fire on Tobacco Row Mountain.

Firefighters say the biggest focus is containing the fire and they don’t suspect any residents will have to be evacuated.

The Virginia Department of Forestry reports the fire is estimating between 30-40 acres on steep terrain with very few access points.



AMHERST COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Forestry is currently on the scene of a brush fire on Tobacco Row Mountain in Amherst County.

Officials say the brush fire is reported to be about 25 acres in size and 0% contained.
