PUEBLO COUNTY, Colo. (CBS12) — A Florida man is behind bars after almost $1 million in marijuana plants were found on his property.
The Pueblo County Sheriff's Office, located in Colorado, discovered that a man from Florida had been growing dozens of marijuana plants with the intent to sell.
When detectives arrived on the property, on Galbreath Road, they spoke to 57-year-old Lazaro Piloto-Gomez.
Although the growing of marijuana is legal in the state of Colorado, State law allows only 12 marijuana plants per household.
Piloto-Gomez admitted to detectives that he had more than 12 marijuana plants on the property — a lot more.
Detectives obtained a warrant to search the property and two of the detached outbuildings. Inside, detectives said one of the large outbuildings was converted into two grow rooms where they located 939 marijuana plants and an approximately 10-pound bag of dried marijuana. Another 20 marijuana plants were found in a smaller detached garage. Also, equipment and supplies typically used for packaging and distributing marijuana were found.
Piloto-Gomez was arrested for cultivation manufacturing of marijuana with intent to distribute, over 50 pounds. Pueblo Regional Building responded and condemned the home and outbuildings because officials said major alterations were made to the electrical system.
