It seems that you can find all sorts of things on eBay, even a tuned single-cab widebody ute based on the Renault 5 from the ’80s. This unique conversion is located in Taunton, UK, and is currently listed for sale at £8,000 ($9,673).

The custom build is based on a second-generation 1987 Renault 5 three-door hatchback, but it has received a large number of modifications inside-out. The most obvious, of course, is the removal of the rear passenger compartment that has been replaced by a truck-style bed.

Needless to say, the small footprint of the sub-compact means there is not much usable space under the bed cover, which is reduced further by a subwoofer and a bar for increased rigidity. We have to admit though that the conversion is well executed, with upholstery covering every inch of the extended boot.

The French model also received a wide bodykit with faux side intakes as a reference to the mid-engined R5 Turbo, as well as white 17-inch Speedline alloy wheels similar to the Renault Clio Williams. The body is covered in a “hyper black pearl liquid” wrap with a carbon-style vented good and yellow-tinted headlights.

Inside the cabin, we find a pair of Recaro ep3 bucket seats, an Alcantara-upholstered dashboard, a Momo steering wheel and a Pioneer audio system. The seller did not include any details about the engine specifications, other than it has been heavily tuned. The suspension also appears to be lowered, most likely featuring a stiffer setup.

According to the listing on eBay, the R5 ute has an odometer reading of 114,000 miles (183,465 km), but it has traveled only 3,000 miles (4,828 km) in the last decade. During its lifetime it has had nine owners, who kept updating the large folder of its service history. It remains to be seen if someone will be willing to pay £8,000 (the equivalent of around US$9,700) for this unique R5.
