A significant winter snow storm from late Sunday to early Monday could challenge travelers’ trips over the Washington and Oregon Cascades.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the mountain region stretching across Washington and down through Central Oregon lasting until 10 a.m. Monday. The Blue Mountains in northeast Oregon and southeast Washington are also under a winter storm warning.
The weather agency says it expects high-elevation areas to get between 12 to 19 inches of snow and wind gusts as high as 45 miles per hour. Mountain overpasses will be hit particularly hard by the storm, so travelers should avoid the area, if possible.
“If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency,” forecasters wrote in the weather warning.
