A Blauvelt family having dinner Friday night were able to escape unharmed after an Amazon driver alerted them to a fire that had broken out at their home.

Officials say the fire began around 6 p.m. on Friday. The family, who were having dinner at the time, were oblivious to the flames until a passing Amazon driver noticed and quickly alerted them.

Blauvelt volunteer firefighters soon arrived with help from other agencies including fire departments from Orangeburg, Sparkhill, West Nyack, Central Nyack and Spring Valley.

Although the family was not hurt, the home was destroyed.

It’s not yet clear what sparked the fire.
