Scattered severe storms will be possible in the areas in yellow tonight into the overnight hours. The areas in dark green could have to deal with isolated severe storms. A tornado or two will be possible as well as damaging wind gusts.

Make sure you have a way to get weather alerts tonight if you will be in south Alabama.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has added a slightly increased risk for severe weather tonight for south Alabama.

However, as of 10:30 p.m. Alabama has been fairly lucky. There have been several severe storms, but a tornado watch has been canceled early for Mobile and Baldwin counties.

Forecasters earlier on Saturday raised areas near the Gulf Coast to a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe weather. Nearly all of the rest of south Alabama has a Level 1 risk.

A Level 2 risk means that scattered severe storms will be possible. A Level 1 risk means isolated severe storms will be possible. The areas that could see severe storms will be roughly from Montgomery and Auburn southward toward the coast.

A tornado or two will be possible, as well as damaging wind gusts and heavy rain, according to the National Weather Service.

The rest of Alabama will also see rain and possibly a storm or two, but no severe weather is expected.

It could also be windy tonight -- even away from storms. The weather service has issued wind advisories that cover all of the state except for the southeastern corner. They will be in effect until 6 a.m. Sunday.

Winds could gust as high as 40 mph in some areas. The areas in brown in the map below will be under wind advisories overnight:

Almost all of Alabama will be under wind advisories today. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph, even away from storms.

The storms are expected to move out of Alabama by Sunday, but some rain could linger in parts of the state through the day.

The first part of next week is expected to be dry, but there will be a chance of another round of storms sometime later on Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

So far severe weather isn’t expected in Alabama from those storms, but that could change as the forecast becomes more clear.
