One dead after Frayser shooting

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A shooting in Frayser is in under investigation after Memphis Police discovered a man shot to death inside of a vehicle, but that’s not all officers found when they looked inside.

The shooting happened around midnight Friday, at time when many people were preparing for bed. In life there are consequences for actions.

“We haven’t learned the concept of that,” a neighbor told us.

A man got an unexpected lesson Friday night, when he arrived at a home along Hallbrook Street in Frayser.

While investigators have not said why he stopped there, neighbors say it was a possibly an attempted robbery, which ended with him being shot to death inside of a Kia. Police say they found burglary tools nearby. It’s a sight leaving those who live nearby on edge.

“We got to do get back to that basic of thou shall not steal but your gonna reap what you sow. It’s not over until God says it’s over,” a neighbor told us.

Our crew did notice a Kia in the driveway, which police say happens to be the most stolen vehicle in all of Memphis. That fact has presented quite the challenge for MPD this year.

“If we can get rid of just auto thefts in the city our crime in the city, the part one crimes in the city would be down, significantly, down,” MPD Chief CJ Davis said.

Last month MPD released data showing there has been a 93 percent increase in auto thefts.
