TALLAHASSEE — As Anthony Richardson sat down for his postgame interview following Florida’s loss at Florida State, he looked at the stat sheet and shook his head.

“I see nine completions. 27 attempts,” Richardson said Friday night. “It’s just crazy to see that it was only nine completions. That’s just crazy to me.”

Richardson connected on five of his first seven pass attempts for 151 yards and three touchdowns, including two perfectly thrown deep balls to Ricky Pearsall.

“I’m glad Ricky played,” Richardson said of Pearsall, his only healthy starting receiver who was questionable after a concussion last week. “He put up some good numbers. Scored some touchdown for us so we could put some points up on the board.” 

From there, however, Richardson completed just four of his next 20 throws (with some drops) and finished with 198 yards and a career-low 33 percent completion rate.

“That’s just us not connecting,” Richardson said. “Winning matchups, we knew we would get one-on-one matchups in this game. We tried to attack them outside. They played pretty good defense defending most of the passes. It was just us not winning our one-on-ones.” 

All four of Richardson’s second-half completions came on Florida’s final drive and brought the Gators into FSU territory, but a great pass to Caleb Douglas was broken up and then his Hail Mary attempt fell incomplete in the end zone.

Richardson was aggressive in the run game on Friday, carrying the ball 10 times for 41 yards including one play where it took several Seminole defenders to bring him down as he dragged the pile for a first down.

“It’s a dogfight out there. Rivalry game,” Richardson said. “You gotta play hard. You gotta put your nose down. Put your head down. Fight through people, run through people. They were doing it to us, why not do it back to them.”
