Do not water down the importance of PA water companies | PennLive letters

I am part of an important industry in Pennsylvania that many people know very little about. This industry serves 4.4 million Pennsylvanians each day and invests hundreds of millions of dollars every year into the Commonwealth’s critical infrastructure. This industry employs more than 2,000 Pennsylvanians just like me and has the highest track record of delivering the safest product to its customers.

I am proud of the work my colleagues and I do every day at Pennsylvania American Water to deliver clean, affordable drinking water and wastewater services to our customers. There has been a lot of misinformation recently about my company, and other companies like mine.

I have worked for Pennsylvania American Water for 22 years and currently manage our operations in Central PA. Every day, my top priority is making sure that our customers have safe water to drink and reliable service that they can count on. I take this responsibility very seriously because I know how vital to life water is. I’m also proud that, during the pandemic when many people fell behind on their water bills, my company took a stand against water shut-offs. We continue to work with customers who struggle to pay their bills by offering assistance programs to keep their water flowing.

So when you hear some outside activist groups talk negatively about water companies here in the Commonwealth, I hope you’ll take the time to know the facts about Pennsylvania’s water industry, and remember that we are committed to exceptional service.
