Veterans in the Redding area have the opportunity to receive free cannabis through an event being put on by "Weed for Warriors", that they are calling "Compassion Event Holiday Donation Drop", happening this Sunday.
Weed for Warriors is a "social justice lifestyle brand" that supports holistic rehabilitation for veterans; this Sunday they are partnering with High Times Redding, PAX, and Ember Valley to host an "SB-34 compassion event".
Veterans with proof of service, a valid state ID card, and a current medical cannabis recommendation are eligible to receive a donation bag of premium cannabis from Ember Valley and an "award winning Pax 3 vaporizer device", free of cost, according to Weed for Warriors.
“SB34 is about legal cannabis access for patients. Very simply, without cannabis access, California veteran and nonveteran patients would be forced to medicate with pharmaceuticals that have FDA stated risk of addiction, overdose, death and suicidal ideation. Cannabis and SB34 is providing a safer alternative and therefore saving lives.” -Sean Kiernan, President of Weed for Warriors Project (WFWP)
WFWP says that following the passage of Senate Bill 34 in 2019, which allows cannabis businesses to donate tax-free cannabis to low-income medical patient's, they have been working with dispensaries across California to provide free medical cannabis to veterans.
- Where: High Times Redding, 345 Hemsted Dr. Redding, CA 96002.
- When: 9:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sunday, November 27.
CEO of Weed for Warriors, Sean Kiernan told KRCR his emotional story on the purpose behind Sunday's event. “I'm a suicide survivor. I'm an overdose survivor, veterans are twice as likely to die from suicide and twice as likely to overdose. their kids are having multiple chances of suffering from PTSD because all their behavior that causes it goes on in their community and houses. and that's what this is about, its standing up for those people who stood up for us.”
Veterans can RSVP through WFWP's website.
