One person has died in a crash that shut down all northbound lanes of Interstate 15 in Draper late Friday night, the Utah Highway Patrol told KUTV 2News.
According to a UHP news release, the crash happened at 10:14 p.m. near 14100 South and involved two vehicles. Troopers said a Jeep Wrangler collided with the back of a Toyota Tundra and rolled several times.
The male driver of the Jeep was ejected and died, UHP said, while the female driver of the Tundra had minor injuries. A male passenger inside the Tundra was not hurt.
The crash closed down the freeway for hours. All northbound vehicles were being diverted off I-15 onto 14600 South, leading to major delays for drivers. The northbound on-ramp at 14600 South was also closed.
The freeway reopened just after 2:00 a.m. Saturday, according to a tweet from the Utah Department of Transportation.
"Impairment by the driver of the Jeep is being investigated as a cause to the crash," UHP troopers said in the news release.
While the freeway was closed, UDOT urged drivers to find an alternate route.
