DETROIT – Dylan Larkin scored the lone goal of the shootout Friday, and the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Arizona Coyotes 4-3 at Little Caesars Arena for their fourth consecutive victory.
Detroit improved to 11-5-4 and is riding its longest winning streak since taking five consecutive games from Nov. 24 to Dec. 4 of last season.
Ville Husso started his fifth game in a row and made 20 saves in regulation and overtime before turning aside all three shootout attempts to improve to 9-2-3.
The Red Wings had done a terrific job killing a pair of penalties in the final seven minutes of regulation, the latter a six-on-four after goaltender Karel Vejmelka was pulled for the extra skater.
But Jakob Chychrun scored with 26 seconds remaining to tie it 3-3 and force overtime.
Larkin scored on the final shot of the shootout.
Filip Hronek scored his sixth goal in six games. His four-game goal-scoring streak ties a franchise record for defensemen, shared by Mathieu Schneider (2005-06), Nicklas Lidstrom (2000-01) and Reed Larson (1980-81).
Andrew Copp and Jordan Oesterle also scored for the Red Wings. Tyler Bertuzzi and Lucas Raymond each picked up a pair of assists.
Arizona fell to 7-9-3.
The Red Wings converted twice on the power play, which is 8 for 20 in the past six games.
Each team scored twice in the second period.
Hronek made it 2-0 on the power play at 4:02, blasting in a one-timer from Jonatan Berggren. Hronek’s six goals are one more than he scored in 78 games last season. Berggren has five points (goal, four assists) in seven points since being recalled for the injured Elmer Soderblom on Nov. 10.
Nick Schmaltz scored on a deflection at 8:32, snapping Husso’s shutout streak at 127:49.
Oesterle responded quickly, scoring from the high slot at 9:00. It was his first goal in 10 games this season.
Arizona again trimmed the lead to one when J.J. Moser fired in a one-timer at 15:31.
The Red Wings led 1-0 after one period on Copp’s second goal in 19 games this season. Raymond’s shot was blocked in front before Copp fired in the loose puck from the slot.
