NEW YORK (PIX11) — From a beloved barbershop owner expanding his job training program to helping bring back heat and hot water service, PIX11’s Monica Morales is making it happen this holiday week.

Harlem Barbershop gets new training space

Back in July, PIX11 reported on a beloved Harlem barbershop training a new generation of barbers and creating jobs in the neighborhood.

Big Russ’ barbershop has been on Fredrick Douglass Boulevard for 29 years. Now, they are opening a new training space — 4,000 square feet of space.

Bronx hot water situation hits boiling point

A few weeks ago, Renee Andean, a legally blind mother of two, told PIX11 there was no hot water in the 56 apartments in her building. After PIX11’s story, NYCHA said its heating team discovered the hot water units were off and reset it, restoring hot water. This holiday week, there was a flood in the basement and the hot water was turned off again. The flooding was cleaned up and hot water was restored just in time for Thanksgiving.

Heat is on at Parkside Houses

After PIX11 reported on the inconsistent heat and hot water issues at the Parkside Houses in the Bronx, the heat returned just in time for Thanksgiving weekend.
