County Officials are advising local motorist to be aware of a closure of Hyrum Dam Road between South Hollow Road and West 6400 South from Monday, Nov. 28 to Monday, Dec. 5.

CACHE COUNTY — Officials here are warning area drivers of a pending road closure between Hyrum and Mount Sterling.

Cache County officials say that the Bureau of Reclamation will close the Hyrum Dam Road beginning Monday, Nov. 28 through Monday, Dec. 5.

The purpose of that closure will be to allow Bureau of Reclamation work crews to conduct testing and bore sampling of the Hyrum Dam.

The Hyrum Dam Road will be closed from the junction of South Hollow Road, north of the dam, south to the junction of West 6400 South enroute to Mount Sterling.

“People will have access to their homes,” according to Joel Merritt, county road supervisor, “but will not be able to drive, walk or bike on the road over the dam.”

To obtain more information about this road closure, residents can contact Hyrum Dam Tender Kurt Lindley at 435-512-6658; the Cache County Road Division at 435-755-1569; or Hyrum City at 435-213-7200.

The Bureau of Reclamation is best known for overseeing dams, power plants and canals in 17 western states, facilitating homesteading and promoting economic development.

The bureau has constructed more than 600 dams and reservoirs, including the Hoover Dam on the Colorado River and Grand Coulee Dam on the Columbia River.

The Bureau of Reclamation is now the largest wholesaler of water in the country. Its dams and canals bring water to more than 31 million people as well as 140,000 Western farmers who irrigate 10 million acres of land.
