A well-known Vermont lawmaker from the Northeast Kingdom has died.
Republican Dick Lawrence of Lyndonville served seven terms in the state House of Representatives, where he was vice chair of the agriculture committee. Lawrence stepped down in 2019.
He died on Thursday morning at the age of 80.
Lawrence was also a farmer, a select board member, and later owned the local Agway. He was a longtime advocate for the Caledonia County Fair.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, at the Congregational Church of Lyndonville.
In a statement, Gov. Phil Scott said Lawrence was "a champion for the Northeast Kingdom and served his communities well with support for a strong agricultural economy. I appreciate his service and the legacy he leaves behind."
