Gilmer County man arrested, in possession of firearms and illegal drugs
A Gilmer County man was arrested Wednesday after a multi-agency investigation resulted in a search warrant where officials seized illegal drugs and a stock of firearms. Jacob Davis, 44, was arrested Wednesday after officials from the Fannin County Sheriff’s Office, the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office (ARDEO) and Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant near Old Flat Creek Road south of Ellijay. Officials reportedly seized 638 grams of methamphetamine and 33 firearms. One of the weapons was stolen out of Fannin County.

New details released after emergency plane landing on I-985
More details have been released after a single-engine plane made an emergency landing Tuesday on Interstate 985 northbound in Buford. Flight tracking website FlightAware reports the 1966 Piper PA-28-140, registered as N7470R, departed the Gwinnett County Airport in Lawrenceville at 3:23 p.m. After departing, the plane flew northwest toward the south end of Lake Lanier and eventually near the City of Cumming.

Gwinnett County Commission approves funds for sidewalks near Highway 29
The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners has approved a $1 million contract to install sidewalks from some residential neighborhoods to Highway 29 between Lilburn and Lawrenceville. Mrs. Ann Marie Frasier, age 51 of Fieldcrest Drive, Eastanollee, GA, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023 at the Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital. A daughter of the late Robert H. Looney and Lois Genelle Tyler, she was born October 15, 1971 in Fort Hood, Texas. She lived in Habersham County and later moved to Stephens County, she was owner/operator of Design Fabrication and a member of First Baptist Church of Hartwell. She was preceded in death by her husband Dewey Wade Frasier. She was a loving mother and grandmother.

The legacy of longtime Gainesville businessman and philanthropist, James A. “Jim” Walters has been memorialized with a life-sized statue at Brenau University. An unveiling ceremony of the statue was held Wednesday on the front lawn of the Walters House at 305 Boulevard. Billy Robert Clark, age 75, originally from Gainesville, Georgia passed away in Andrews, North Carolina after an extended illness. Billy was born on October 3, 1947 in Gainesville, Georgia to the late Mr. Elmer and Mrs. Maxine (Withrow) Clark. He was a member and preacher at Cool Springs Baptist Church. Billy took great enjoyment in his service to the Murrayville Masonic Lodge 30, earning the 33 Degree affiliation. Many weekends were spent participating in Lanier Shrine Club parades and fundraising for Shriner’s Hospitals. He was a fun guy to be around, always making jokes and keeping people laughing.

Hall County Commission approves self-storage facility on McEver Road
The Hall County Commission unanimously approved Thursday night a rezoning for a self-storage facility on McEver Road. The 11.36-acre tract, located between McEver Road and Pleasant Hill Road, will feature three two-story self-storage buildings. Each building will be about 24,000 square feet. They will include both climate-controlled and non-climate-controlled units.

Kerry “Monk” Lee Wiley, age 65, of Lula, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. A lifelong resident of Hall County, Mr. Wiley was the son of the late A.W. and Versie Wiley. He retired from Hall County School System and was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend. He loved to joke. In his younger days, Monk loved team roping and anything with a motor and wheels. In his later years, he enjoyed crossfitting with his kids and playing with his grandson. On Friday nights, you could find Monk playing cards with his brothers and friends. Mondays were always reserved for the “junk sale”.
