While many of us enjoyed Thanksgiving meals with our families and friends, several people in our community weren't as fortunate.
Many local volunteers dedicate their own holiday to make sure others have a great one.
Over 100 people gathered at the St. Vincent de Paul Family Kitchen in Johnstown for a warm Thanksgiving meal.
Director and Manager Greg Karcher says nobody should have to be hungry on Thanksgiving or spend the holiday alone.
Some people don't have that, 'Good morning, Happy Thanksgiving, have a good day.' You know what I mean? It's sad to say, but it's true. So, if you can offer them that, and something to eat and nourish them, we're doing a good thing," Karcher told 6 News.
On a normal week, the Johnstown Family Kitchen serves a warm meal to over 150 people every Monday through Friday from 11:30 to 12:30.
They don't take days off for the holidays.
"It's actually a pretty easy day for us, because the kindness is overwhelming between volunteers and prepping the food. So, it's a good thing," Karcher said.
"Stuffing" kindness into their recipes.
"We have turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, corn, cranberry sauce, salad, we have some homemade pumpkin pies," he told 6 News.
While they don't do it for anything in return, the volunteers say the "thank yous" they get are just the whipped cream on the pumpkin pie.
"Just because of those one, two, or three people who say, 'Thank you for being here, I really appreciate it.' I just think nobody should have to be by themselves," Karcher said.
Karcher says an overwhelming number of people want to volunteer at the kitchen on the holidays, which is great.
Although, they need volunteers on your average weekday as well.
