The man accused of setting the Joy Lake Fire in August has been arrested Wednesday, said the Washoe County Sheriff's Office (WCSO).
According to the WCSO, on August 14, 2022, WCSO and the Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue (TMFR) responded to two separate fires in the area of 3400 Joy Lake Road in Reno. The fire resulted in significant damage of properties, destroying one house and damaging three others.

The WSCO's Detective Unit and TMFR conducted a joint investigation, which revealed that the fires were "willfully and maliciously set," according to WCSO.
Further investigation identified the suspect to be 44-year-old Matthew Kimmens. WCSO Detectives and K9 Deputies located and arrested Kimmens on November 23 on multiple charges:
- Arson 1st Degree (four counts)
- Arson 3rd Degree
- Arson 4th Degree
- Destruction of Property $5,000 or more (four counts)
