BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) – After the big Black Friday deals are gone, the Better Business Bureau of South Central Louisiana (BBB) in Baton Rouge encourages shoppers to buy local on Saturday.

Small Business Saturday began with a resolution that was passed by the Senate in 2011. Small Business Saturday celebrates small businesses and always follows Black Friday. Here are a few tips to help customers “shop small”.

Search for local businesses in Baton Rouge here.

Find events small businesses are hosting

Shoppers can get involved and find small businesses by attending local events.

Follow small businesses and owners on social media

The BBB says that most small business owners will use social media platforms for advertising. BBB also suggests signing up for email alerts.

Invite family and friends

It’s always better to shop in a group. Show loved ones your favorite places to go.

Don’t just shop small

The BBB says to eat small. Eating at independently owned restaurants, coffee shops, or bakeries is also a way to participate in Small Business Saturday.

Share the experience

Reviews definitely work. Writing a review will help spread the word about local businesses. People love reading about another person’s experience.
