Lehighton woman pleads in drug cases

A Lehighton woman entered guilty pleas in four drug-related cases on Tuesday in Carbon County court.

Shari Cadugan, 56, who also goes by Shari Frances Jones, entered pleas to three counts of possession of a controlled substance - heroin, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Cadugan was arrested on July 9, 2019, by Lehighton police as part of an ongoing investigation of drug dealing in the county. She was arrested a second time on Dec. 6, 2018, by Lehighton police as part of an ongoing investigation involving the Attorney General’s office. The third arrest occurred on Oct. 1, 2019, also filed by Lehighton police following a traffic stop. Methamphetamine was found on her.

The paraphernalia charge stems from an incident on Sept. 2, 2019, filed by Franklin Township police. A possession count was dropped in that case.

Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted the pleas and sentenced Cadugan to serve six to one day less 24 months in prison on each count, with the terms running concurrently. Cadugan, who has been an inmate in the county prison on the charges, was given credit for a total of 144 days already served.

She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use, supply a DNA sample, render 100 hours of community service, pay court costs of over $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.

On the paraphernalia charge she was placed on probation for a year, consecutive to the other counts.
