LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Fire damaged a house in the Highland Park area today, but no one was hurt.

Firefighters sent to the 6300 block of East Ruby Street at 9:47 a.m. extinguished the flames in the two-story building in 21 minutes, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

“Firefighters encountered significant storage within the attic which delayed their ability to reach the seat of the fire,” Stewart said in a statement.

“Additional crews conducted salvage operations on the interior --which remained clear of fire -- to protect belongings from water/smoke damage,” Stewart said. “There was a roofing operation underway at the time of the fire.”

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
