Record of Ragnarok is an anime series based on the manga series of the same name that's written by Shinya Umemura and Takumi Fukui and illustrated by Ajichika.

As for its premise, the show’s world features the Gods’ Council which decides on humanity’s fate every 1,000 years.

After millions of years of humanity’s existence, the gods decide that humans must go extinct.

In response, the Valkyrie Brunhilde asks the gods to give humanity a chance to prove their worth.

This will be done via the Battle of Ragnarok, a tournament featuring 13 notable humans from across history who must fight against 13 of the most powerful gods.

If humanity’s heroes win at least 7 matches, humanity will be spared. But if they don’t, humanity will face extinction.

The first season was released exclusively on Netflix in June 2021, with all 12 episodes being released on the same day, similar to Netflix’s release strategy for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean.

Shortly after its release, Netflix confirmed that the show was renewed for a second season. Though it took a while before new information on Season 2 was announced.

Unlike Season 1 which was made solely by anime studio Graphinica, Season 2 will be co-animated by Graphinica and Yumeta Company.
