PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — With Thanksgiving behind us, it is now officially the holiday season, and that means Philadelphia’s Christmas Village is in full swing.

One of the highlights of the seasonal market is the food spanning all over LOVE Park, the courtyard of City Hall and along North Broad Street.

Lisa Leonhardi, Christmas Village spokesperson, said there will be some old favorites, like German pretzels and cookies.

“We have käsespätzle — that’s German cheese noodles,” she added. “We have the raclette sandwiches back again this year that are always super popular. We also have Belgian fries.”

The most traditional German staple is bratwurst. “They’re made in LOVE Park on our custom schwenker” — a large hanging grill — “that’s been made especially in Germany.”

And don’t forget the strudel stall. “The strudel comes with a cherry filling or with the apricot and almond filling or a chocolate filling. And if you don’t like sweet things, you can also get it with a spinach and cheese filling.”

For drinks, there are craft brews from the beer garden and seasonal drinks like hot chocolate and cider. You can spike them for an added kick.

Christmas Village is open now through Christmas Eve. For more, listen to the KYW Newsradio original podcast What’s Cooking on the Audacy app or in the audio player below:
