This Thanksgiving, a mother of 4 gathers boxes of food donated by the Homeless Coalition and Silverdale Baptist Church at a local Super 8 Inn.
“It’s very hard on my kids because we always had a home like, we'd never been through nothing like this before" says the former Budgetel resident.
She says this holiday is bittersweet because she and her children are without a home.
Last week she was one of the hundreds who were evicted from the Budgetel Inn in East Ridge.
She would like to remain anonymous to protect herself from a previous abusive partner.
She says the Budgetel was a safe haven for herself and her children.
“I want to try to get them away from, you know, having to think about how their mom and their dad or grandparents were put out or they were put out with them” says Charles Greer, organizer of Thanksgiving Weekend Giveaway event.
Greer of Smash Entertainment is partnering with Monifa Enterprise for a Thanksgiving Giveaway.
He says the event will be donating food, clothing, toys and even bikes to attendees.
Greer says it's the Budgetel children that he is most concerned for.
“With some children you think they don't know anything, they are aware of a lot of things and it can also stress them" says Charles Greer, organizer of Thanksgiving Weekend Giveaway event.
For the mother of four, she says even without a home, she reminds her children that there is so much to be thankful for.
“I just tell them this is just God just testing us and making us more stronger, and we're going to get through it," says a the former Budgetel resident.
The Thanksgiving Weekend Giveaway will be held at 6215 Lee Highway at Venue 923 in Chattanooga. It will be on Saturday Nov. 26 from 12PM to 4:30PM.
