SEVERE UPDATE (11:40 PM): The severe threat has wrapped up for the Gulf Coast. A few showers and thunderstorms are possible into the early morning.
MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) – A more unsettled weather pattern lies ahead for the Gulf Coast which could include a chance for isolated strong and severe storms.
Saturday is a WEATHER AWARE DAY for the Gulf Coast. Mostly cloudy skies will stick around through most of the day Saturday. A stray shower will be possible through 4 pm as a significant weather system moves in from the west. Highs will reach the lower 70s with southeast winds picking up.
A broken line of storms will move from west to east after 6 pm. The environment will be able to sustain strong and severe storms. Although the instability will remain low, wind shear values will be high. The main hazards will the strongest storms after 6 pm will be damaging wing gusts up to 60 mph and small, brief tornadoes. This threat will continue as the storms move through lower Alabama and into Northwest Florida. The storms should exit the region by 1-2 am Sunday.
