A local man has been arrested after reportedly stabbing a woman in the neck with a box cutter on Wednesday afternoon.
Deputies with the Trinity County Sheriff's Office responded to the Lewiston area at around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 23. When they arrived, they found a local woman suffering a stab wound to her neck and began treating her.
The victim told deputies that 42-year-old Matthew Williams had stabbed her in the neck with a box cutter and ran away.
Deputies searched the area and found Williams a few miles away from where the stabbing occurred. While he was detained, deputies found around an ounce of meth on him. They also found a bladed weapon matching the description of the weapon used in the attempted murder.
Ultimately, he was booked into the Trinity County Jail for attempted murder, possessing meth for sales, felony domestic violence, and assault with a deadly weapon.
