The Brisbane Bullets have parted ways with head coach James Duncan, the team announced on Friday.
Duncan, 45, was in his second season at the helm for the Bullets, who currently sit ninth on the NBL ladder with a 3-6 record.
"JD is a high character individual, and just an all-round great guy which makes this all the more difficult, we felt the time was now to pivot and take a change of direction," Bullets CEO, Peter McLennan, said.
"We will work at pace and diligently consider our next steps for the organisation."
McLennan is currently in the United States meeting with the Bullets' ownership. A meeting on Thursday (AEDT) was centred around the future of Duncan, sources told ESPN, with the determination being that parting ways with their head coach would be in the best interests of the team.
Duncan's job had been in jeopardy since the early rounds of the 2022-23 NBL season, with the Bullets' ownership group strongly considering replacing him after the team's 0-5 start, sources said.
Sam Mackinnon, the Bullets' general manager, will step in as the team's interim head coach.
The Bullets' expectations were high entering the new season, with the signing of Aron Baynes, as well as former NBA guard, Tyler Johnson. They're coming off a loss to the Cairns Taipans, and face the New Zealand Breakers on Sunday (AEDT).
Before signing his three-year deal with the Bullets, Duncan was an assistant coach with the Sydney Kings. The Canadian had experience coaching in Germany and Japan, before arriving in Australia.
