*Not counting the lifetime achievement, honorary or humanitarian Oscar.

Thelma Ritter
Max von Sydow
Agnes Moorehead
James Mason
Barbara Stanwyck
Albert Finney
Deborah Kerr
Montgomery Clift
Angela Lansbury
Peter O'Toole

Who would your choices be?

It's kinda sad all Agnes is know now for is Bewitched but Endora is that iconic sometimes a character just outshines all your others.

That said Citizen Kane, Dark Passage, Show Boat, The Magnificent Ambersons and Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte are nothing to sneeze at.

O'Toole not winning for Lawrence is absolutely shocking - even for the Oscars

Oops. How did I forget her.

And Richard Burton too. Double oops.

He lost out to Gregory Peck in To Kill a Mockingbird though. It’s hard to argue (imo anyway) that Peck didn’t deserve the honour that year.

He just had EXTREMELY bad luck with who he was nominated against. Iconic films and roles very much not forgotten.

Gregory Peck - To Kill A Mockingbird
Rex Harrison - My Fair Lady
    John Wayne - True Grit
    Marlon Brando - The Godfather
Robert De Niro - Raging Bull
    Ben Kingsley - Gandhi

The odd one out is that he should of won for The Lion In Winter, Cliff Robertson winning for Charly was a joke.

Red Harrison was lucky that O'Toole and Richard Burton were nominated for Lead Actor Oscar in the same film Beckett.

Bogarde work in Europe (The Night Porter being one example) was probably considered not Oscar fare.

Doris Day. She was only ever nominated once but deserved more nominations. Especially for Love Me Or Leave Me.

    Barbara Stanwyck
    Thelma Ritter
    Rosalind Russell
    Deborah Kerr
    Jean Simmons
    James Mason
    Judy Garland
    Angela Lansbury
    Agnes Moorehead
    Ida Lupino
    Myrna Loy
    Edward G Robinson

The last three never received a single Oscar Nomination in their long and illustrious careers. The Acadamy should hang their collective heads in shame.

Don't know how true but I heard when Hitchcock got the lifetime achievement award he thanked his wife a couple of others and said thank you very much and walked off. A minute on stage at the most.

    Exactly what the academy deserved.

It's even better than that. Only 5 words spoken and three of them were almost missed by the microphone...
