Singer-songwriter Kid Rock has recently become an outspoken advocate for the preservation of a historic Tennessee home once owned by Alabama-born country music legend Hank Williams.
Williams purchased the property, which he called “The Farm” in 1951, but never lived there, The Tennessean reported.
“According to Hank Williams band member Jerry Rivers, it was on “The Farm” while jumping a ditch on horseback that Hank fell and injured his back, which required surgery in December of 1951. According to many country music historians, this is where the downward spiral for Hank Williams began,” the site Saving Country Music states.
Williams died less than two years after purchasing the property.
The home, also referred to as Beechwood Hall, was also owned by country singers Tim McGraw and Faith Hill until the new ownership took over.
Rock spoke about the matter on Fox News’ “The Tucker Carlson Show” where he said he is “sick of seeing history torn to the ground.”
The musician has now started an online petition that he shared to his Twitter page so others can show their support as well.
“Please sign the petition if you have had enough of people tearing down so much of our great country’s history!” he said in the tweet.
While the petition states that the new owners of Beechwood Hall already plan to demolish the home, reports from WZTV Nashville state that there are not yet immediate plans to do so.
It also stated, however, that while the home is on the National Historic Register of Properties, this doesn’t provide protection from demolition.
