Spencer, IA (KICD) — Spencer Schools has stood by its mental health support offered to students and their families, and at their latest meeting the School Board has now pledged to support behavioral health throughout the county.

Superintendent Terry Hemann supported donating to the Behavioral Health Support Network to increase resources available to county residents.

Similar to the Mental Health Navigator role proposed by Spencer Hospital KICD reported on earlier this year, the network aims to bring support services together so anyone needing resources will know what options are available to them. The board unanimously approved a $5,000 donation per year for the next three years to the network.

In addition to the county effort Spencer Schools offers tools to students with severe behavioral needs to improve themselves through the Lakes Partnership School.

Approximately 14 schools are part of this partnership with the Prairie Lakes AEA to support the community through addressing behavioral health.
