Firefighters contain blaze inside downtown L.A. high-rise

LOS ANGELES (KNX) – Firefighters contained a fire that occurred inside a 13-story high-rise building in Downtown Los Angeles.

Firefighters responded to the 100 block of East Fifth Street at 9:48 a.m., according to Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire was contained to one unit on the 11th floor and no evacuations were needed. It took fire crews over 20 minutes after receiving the call to take out the fire.

“There is some residual water on the 10th and 11th floors and firefighters are taking equipment up to conduct a water removal operation,” the department said.

One person is being evaluated for possible smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
