NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Three people were slashed or stabbed on Manhattan subway trains over the span of a half-hour Tuesday night, including a woman and good Samaritan who were attacked by a man hurling anti-Muslim remarks, police said.
The woman was aboard a southbound L train at the 14th Street–Union Square station around 10:30 p.m. when her attacker sat across from her and allegedly spewed anti-Muslim insults. He then slashed her across the cheek with a blade, police said.
When a good Samaritan tried to intervene, the suspect put him in a headlock and struck him in the head before slashing him too.
The NYPD’s Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the assault.
Just a half-hour earlier at the 34th Street–Herald Square station, two men were arguing on a southbound F train when one of them pulled out a knife and stabbed the other in the abdomen.
The fight spilled onto the platform, where the stabber knifed the victim in the abdomen again, police said.
Both suspects fled on trains after the attacks. They remained at large Wednesday.
The victims were taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition and are all expected to survive.
Police continued to investigate early Wednesday at Union Square, where crime scene tape was still up and the floor was still wet where blood was mopped up.
As of Sunday, transit crime is up 35% this year compared to the same period in 2021.
One rider told 1010 WINS he tries not to think about attacks like these when he rides the rails.
“It is what it is,” he said. “I don’t put it to memory. I just move through life.”
