The MercyOne Children's Hospital in Des Moines has been running at near full capacity over the past few weeks because of rising infections. One pediatrician told KCCI the RSV virus can live on surfaces for up to a week, so it's important to be extra aware of good hygiene.
"This is a disease that is impacting both the young and the the old in our population. So try and be kind to those you love, not spread, spread love and not germs," said Dr. Jessica Zuzga-Reed, MercyOne Pediatric Critical Care.
UnityPoint says it is also seeing a large number of RSV infections and operating close to capacity.
