(Gogebic County, MI) - A 31-year old man is in custody on charges relating to discharging a firearm and fleeing police.
State Police from the Wakefield post and Gogebic County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched at about 10:56am yesterday (Mon) to an address in Marinesco on a report of a domestic disturbance and malicious destruction of property. It was also reported that the suspect was discharging a firearm at or near the property. Officers arrived to find the suspect had left the property. A short time later, the suspect returned to the residence, and when confronted by law enforcement, fired a shot towards a nearby residence. The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle pursued by law enforcement. The pursuit crossed the state line into Vilas County, Wisconsin, where Wisconsin State Patrol troopers and Vilas County Sheriff’s deputies deployed stop-sticks and effectively deflated the suspect’s vehicle tires. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
There were no injuries to the public, law enforcement, or the suspect.
The suspect is currently lodged in the Vilas County Jail on a charge of ‘flee and elude’ and is awaiting extradition back to Michigan for additional charges. The investigation is ongoing.
