An officer-involved shooting that happened in Berthoud early on Monday morning is under investigation, according to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office.

That's according to a post on the agency's Facebook page. According to the post, the incident started at 12:18 a.m. near Highway 57 and Interstate 25 in Berthoud when a deputy tried to stop a vehicle.

But the car took off northbound on I-25 before turning on Crossroads Boulevard and driving east. A deputy used a Precision Immobilization Technique [also known as a Pit Maneuver] near Crossroads Blvd. and Centerra Parkway, forcing the vehicle to stop.

According to the post, a man got out of the car armed with a rifle,  and deputies fired at him. The man was later pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the post:

The Eighth Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team was activated, and Fort Collins Police Services will be leading the investigation and managing public information. More information will be released when appropriate.
